The Black Forest in Germany in a wonderful holiday destination and certainly Baden- Baden in the heart of The Black Forest is a great base to stay so as to explore the area. The Black Forest’s main spa town is cosmopolitan Baden-Baden. The town has a wealth of restaurants, cafes and bars. The two big thermal spas - the magnificent Friedrichsbad built in 1877 and the modern Caracalle-Thermen - offer guests a wide range of treatments. The town has a number of swimming pools within easy reach. The ski slopes are twenty minutes away. ] The city offers many options for sports enthusiasts. Golf and tennis are both popular in the area. Horse racing fans enjoy the international racing season each August at nearby Iffezheim. There is a picturesque 18-hole golf course in Fremersberg. The countryside is ideal for hiking and mountain climbing. In the winter Baden-Baden is a skiing destination. The sights include the Old and the New Castles, the domed Old Railway Station in Neo-Renaissance style, the spa quarter and the old town Centre. They attract many tourists and not just spa guests.
The casino is the oldest in Germany and one of the most beautiful in the world. It opens its doors to a national and international clientele every day. The baroque-style gaming halls are lavishly furnished with the most luxurious materials. Fyodor Dostoyevsky, one of its most famous patrons, was inspired by Baden-Baden to write his novel The Gambler. The Russian writer Ivan Turgenev based his novel Smoke (1867) in Baden-Baden, and describes it as a place when the Russian nobility spend time.
In England Baden-Baden is famous for having held European Cup in 2006 and it’s many designer shops were shown on TV at that time.
